A black man is falsely accused of raping a white woman. The events are seen through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, whose widower father, Atticus is a principled attorney who makes the controversial decision to defend the accused man. Explores the adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South in the 1930s.
